Tip for Tuesday – Clean Your Stove with Baking Soda!

Part of reducing debt is lowering expenses, so I’m always looking for cheap ways to clean around the house. I HATE spending money on cleaning supplies, so I use a lot of vinegar, baking soda, and Dawn dish soap.  Using two of these ingredients, I’ve found a quick and easy – and super-effective – way to clean your stove top.

A lot of frugal products aren’t as effective as their more expensive counterparts.  For my use, this is MORE effective than any other method or product I’ve used on my stove. After the video, I’ll list the steps in case you can’t watch the magic happen and just want to read about it.

Clean Your Stove with Baking Soda!

(*I didn’t spend any time editing this video because I just wanted to get it up for you to see. Sorry it’s shaky!)
  • Sprinkle baking soda on your stove, concentrating on problem spots.
  • Sprinkle vinegar over the top of the baking soda, letting it settle for a minute over it.  (I used a syringe only because that’s what I had on hand. A spray bottle would probably work, too.)
  • Use a cloth to wipe up the easy areas.
  • For harder spots, gathering some of the baking soda under your finger and use small, circular motions to rub off the burnt-on or spilled food, and watch it come off! This may not be “effortless,” but it will be very effective. The only places I couldn’t clean required a straight razor blade to scrape off the food – but there weren’t many of those when I used this method.

Hope this helps you save some money on expensive cleaning products – AND get your stove clean!
